ANCA CONNECTS: The Budget Game

Description
We all know the best way to learn is by doing — so we invite you to join us for “The Budget Game,” where participants take on leadership roles and engage in a dynamic, real-world budgeting simulation.
In this interactive game, you’ll experience firsthand the tough decisions nonprofit leaders in our industry face as we allocate limited resources to support mission-driven programming, staff development, facility needs, and more. Come ready to learn, strategize, and make tough calls — just like in the real world of nonprofit management!
This game was specially developed by staff at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center in Lanesboro, Minnesota, for rising professionals at Eagle Bluff. Engaging new professionals in budget simulation helps them understand how nonprofits operate, as well as the challenging decisions that leadership has to make when faced with budgetary constraints.
This CONNECTS will offer you an opportunity to:
- Step into the role of an outdoor education leader as you allocate a limited budget for a fiscal year
- Navigate real-world challenges, make tough leadership decisions, and balance mission-driven goals with financial sustainability
- Understand the impact of values-driven budgeting, discovering how an organization’s priorities shape financial choices
- Gain insight into real-world constraints and trade-offs, reinforcing the importance of strategic planning and collaboration
- See how this tool is used to help staff understand how budgeting works and gain insight into the challenges that can occur when unexpected situations arise
This program will be facilitated by:
- Jenna Moon, Education Director at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center
- Colleen Foehrenbacher, Executive Director at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center
Registration: $20 ANCA Members, $40 non-members
