Date
Feb 02 2024

Description

Time:  11am-1pm AKT  /  12-2pm PT  /  1-3pm MT  /  2-4pm CT  /  3-5pm ET

The ANCA Overnight Camp & Outdoor School Summit brings together directors and management staff from overnight nature-based camps, outdoor schools, and residential environmental learning centers across North America. These organizations share the unique challenges of housing and feeding program participants for multiple days, and the Summit fosters a space to solve problems and build connections in this particular field.

If you’re in a leadership or management position at an overnight camp, outdoor school, or related organization, please join us for this virtual Summit to learn and share about organizational management and operations within this profession. In this program you’ll attend two topic-specific breakout sessions of your choice, connecting with professional peers and collaboratively sharing resources and solutions. Expect to come away with new ideas, inspiration, and connections for your work.

This Summit is relevant to any organization that offers overnight, multi-day programs that are based in environmental education, and we welcome all professionals in leadership or management positions at these organizations.

Sessions

This Summit will use an Open Space format where any participant can suggest a session topic ahead of time; all participants then collectively decide which session topics will be held.

Sessions are discussion-based, where participants contribute to the conversation and a facilitator guides the dialogue to keep the discussions on track and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate. These discussions allow you to share with your peers, learn new ideas, and work together to find solutions.

Once you register, you’ll receive access to an online bulletin board where you can suggest session topics and vote on which topics you’d like to be chosen for discussion.

If you suggest a topic and it is chosen as a session, you will be asked to introduce the topic and facilitate the discussion among the participants. Because all participants contribute to the conversation, as the facilitator you do not need to be perceived as the expert in the room; you can simply start the conversation and engage accordingly.

This system allows you to collaboratively create your experience, and provides the opportunity for you to be an active participant rather than a passive listener.
