Lodging

Staying at Camp McDowell offers a comfortable and scenic experience for the Outdoor School Summit. Lodging on-site allows you to immerse yourself in Summit programs while also accessing Camp McDowell’s impressive amenities and landscape. 

Lodging options include both private and dormitory-style accommodations.

Booking for lodging will open in early September.

Bethany Cabins

Offering an affordable option for your lodging needs, these dormitory-style cabins accommodate up to 18 guests in an expansive room. The cabins are heated and guests share a communal bathroom. Linens are not furnished.

Bethany Cabins have handicap accessible paths leading to the dining hall, fire pit, nurse's cabin, and all other buildings in Bethany Village.

Fees

  • Single bed: $20/night (linens not provided)

Parsley Commons Lodge Rooms

Designed for comfort and privacy, each lodge room features two queen beds and a private bathroom. Linens and towels are provided, and every space is heated with a geothermal system. The common space of each lodge has a full-size kitchen and makes for a comfortable space to relax with fellow Summit participants.

Parsley Commons lodges have handicap accessible hotel style rooms.

Fees

  • Room: $105/night (two beds, linens provided)

Extending Your Stay

If you want to arrive a day early or stay a day after the Summit, you are welcome to book lodging for the nights of Thursday, January 14 or Tuesday, January 19.

Travel

Located just an hour northwest of Birmingham, Alabama, Camp McDowell sits amid a beautiful landscape of forest, streams, waterfalls, and canyons.

Airports

The nearest airport is the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), which is an hour’s drive from Camp McDowell.

Other airport options include:

  • Huntsville International Airport (HSV) – About 1.5 hours away by car.
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) – Approximately 3–3.5 hours away by car. This airport often offers more flight options and competitive fares.

Ground Transportation

Birmingham also features stops for Amtrak trains, as well as Greyhound bus and Megabus services. 

If you are within driving distance, Camp McDowell is about:

  • 1 hour from Birmingham
  • 1.5 hours from Huntsville
  • 3 hours from Nashville
  • 3–3.5 hours from Atlanta
