Taking this course will leave you with a thorough understanding of the Urban Ecology Center model, tools to help you reflect meaningfully on how the model can benefit your city/project, and an expanded network and ongoing support from other community leaders.\NThe March 2021 online Intensive will open with a live, 90-minute interactive session on Thursday, March 4 (at noon in the Eastern time zone). On each of the following four Thursdays, we will continue with additional live sessions. We offer an optional 30-minute Q&A each week, with the opportunity to talk to other participants. Throughout the week, there will be videos, activities, and the opportunity to connect with others in our network. The concluding session on April 1 will include key steps for participants to use their shared learning to implement the model in their community. Participants will have access to over 25 hours of interactive and guided content. Included in this training package, you will also have the opportunity to schedule a follow-up coaching session for yourself or your team with Institute leaders. Scholarships are available!\NWho should join us?\NIndividuals or teams from the same organization or community. Creative problem solvers, city leaders, and educators — from the public, private or non-profit sectors — who are committed to educating and inspiring youth, revitalizing urban green space, or are seeking solutions to renew disinvested neighborhoods. When teams from different places working on the same local issues share their experiences together, that’s when the magic happens.\NWho else could join us? While our focus is urban, we are sharing best practices for running a successful, growing non profit. Our model becomes relevant for nature centers and community centers serving children, as well as intergenerational programs, agriculture organizations that focus on education and community building, and university programs. This is a roots-and-stems, hands-on practical workshop that will be useful for many.\NLearn more here\N{youtube}Qwo0jIdN94Q{/youtube}

DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays, Aug 25–Oct 27, 3-5pm ET\NPreregistration is required by Tuesday, August 17, 2021 for this live virtual ten-week series.\NThis 20-hour course from the Cincinnati Nature Center will give context to your paid or volunteer work at nature centers. Discover helpful resources, discuss strategic decisions in programming, and gain a big-picture overview from which you can better articulate your perspective when assisting staff in program planning, during job interviews, or when contributing to the field as a volunteer or graduate student. You may be inspired to dive deeper into topics such as conservation psychology, behavioral change theory, nature study, and civic engagement as we take a very broad look at where nature centers started and where they may be headed. Reading assignments will be given weekly.\NCourse Learning Outcomes — Students will be able to answer the following questions in the context of their own career goals and experiences:\N\NWhat are nature centers, how do they differ from similar institutions, and where are they headed?\NWho were/are major contributors to the field?\NWho should nature centers serve?\NWhy and how do nature centers serve children?\NWhat outcomes can nature centers expect to achieve?\NIs civic engagement something that nature centers can/should address?\NWhat is advocacy and what does it look like at nature centers?\NHow can a theory of change improve communication and clarify assumptions?\NWhere can best practices, helpful resources, and current research in environmental education be found?\NWhat are some current assessment tools for nature center programs?\NWhat fields beyond interpretation and environmental education are shaping the profession?\N\NRegistration includes 20 hours of virtual learning via the Zoom platform! Your link to attend the meeting will be sent in a follow up email a week before the program starts. If you have additional questions or do not receive your link, please contact Connie O'Connor at coconnor@cincynature.org.\NCost: $125 per student (includes the entire ten-week series).\NRegister Here

SUMMARY:Urban Ecology Institute Intensive Online Training
CREATED:20210118T204354Z
DTSTAMP:20210118T204354Z
URL:https://institute.urbanecologycenter.org/intensive/
DESCRIPTION:The Urban Ecology Center offers 20+ years of experience in neighborhood transformation, and is thrilled to share in this online Intensive. In this interactive online course, participants will cover the intersecting themes of transforming kids, parks, cities, and the world. Taking this course will leave you with a thorough understanding of the Urban Ecology Center model, tools to help you reflect meaningfully on how the model can benefit your city/project, and an expanded network and ongoing support from other community leaders.\NThe Intensive includes five 90-minute sessions over five weeks, each with interactive presentations from the Institute faculty team. As we guide you through lessons drawn from our experiences, you will reflect on case studies that can apply directly to your own community. At regular intervals, you will engage in conversation with other participants in break-out groups. You are building a cohort in this Intensive, leading to lasting relationships with emerging and established leaders in other cities.\NWeekly activities include optional Q&A sessions, reading assignments, and individualized feedback on written reflections. The activities culminate in a self assessment of your current project planning process, which will allow us to help you evaluate next steps in your community. Every participant (individually or as part of their team) will have a follow-up hour of coaching with Institute leadership.\NWho should join us?\NIndividuals or teams from the same organization or community. Creative problem solvers, city leaders, and educators — from the public, private or non-profit sectors — who are committed to educating and inspiring youth, revitalizing urban green space, or are seeking solutions to renew disinvested neighborhoods. When teams from different places working on the same local issues share their experiences together, that’s when the magic happens.\NWho else could join us? While our focus is urban, we are sharing best practices for running a successful, growing non profit. Our model becomes relevant for nature centers and community centers serving children, as well as intergenerational programs, agriculture organizations that focus on education and community building, and university programs. This is a roots-and-stems, hands-on practical workshop that will be useful for many.\NLearn more here\N{youtube}Qwo0jIdN94Q{/youtube}
